[fade black]

[Sarah startles to waking, drawing her gun and aiming at a silhouetted figure perched a
few meters away on a fence stump. The sky is a deep red/orange, like looking towards a
distant forrest fire at night.]

[He speaks a voice like Tom Waits with throat cancer.]

"evenin', Miss Stone"

[She shakes slightly, her stomach wound draining her strength. Her voice however, is as
confident as ever.]

"The hell are you, and the hell you want?"

[The dark figure pauses and gazes slightly toward the sky, as if thinking. And then, again,
the voice like flakes of rust.]

"You feel it too, dontcha? Somethin' wrong with this place. Somethin' dark an' rotten an'
diseased. Some festerin' dead thing. Bile soaked maggots feastin' and burstin right under
yer feet, You feel it. You feel it well as I do. An' here you are, bullet in yer stomach,
bleedin out over the dirt. You feel it well as I do and you still aint gunna give up. "

[He looks toward her again, the words lingering for a while on thick air, before Sarah
speaks again, in a firm voice bordering on anger.]

"asked you nice as i'm gunna, to state your name and business, stranger. Aint gunna ask
again"

[He laughs, more to himself than at sarah. Its the kind of laugh that makes babies die.
When he speaks again, there is no trace of lingering humour]

"Afraid i lost my name long time ago ma'am. And my business? Well now that's exactly what
it is."

[After a pause, he stands and walks away, Sarah's gun shakily trained on him still]

"You're an interestin woman Miss Stone. Sure hope you survive the night."

[fade black]

reading this thread on the engine, i have to say i was kind of shocked how little proffesional comics guys know about things like tablets. And monitors actually.

that probably sounds meaner than I intend, and i actually mean no offense (for once!) but coming from where im coming from its kind of boggling to me. Especially on a forum where people are reading it on mobile phones :p

its a small sample of creators obviously, but it leads me to wonder where things are headed if such a percentage is similar in the widespread community, and how things might shake up as the young tablet gliding upstarts begin to make themselves heard/seen...
